Japan has one of the strongest golf cultures in Asia, and Vietnamese golf is a natural fit for Japanese golfers seeking something different from home. Phu Quoc's courses are quiet, well-maintained, and offer a genuine tropical island experience — warm temperatures year-round, outstanding fresh seafood, and a pace of life that feels genuinely restorative. Entry is visa-free for Japanese passport holders, and connections from Tokyo, Osaka and other cities are comfortable with one stop.
Getting to Phu Quoc from Japan
The most convenient routings from Japan are:
- Via Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) — Vietnam Airlines, JAL and ANA operate flights from Tokyo Narita (NRT), Tokyo Haneda (HND), Osaka Kansai (KIX) and Nagoya to Ho Chi Minh City. Total flight time is approximately 5.5–6 hours. Frequent connections to Phu Quoc (PQC) run throughout the day and take about 1 hour. This routing is particularly good as it allows a stopover in Ho Chi Minh if desired.
- Via Singapore (SIN) — JAL, ANA and Singapore Airlines connect Japanese cities to Singapore Changi with a Scoot or VietJet onward connection to Phu Quoc. Total journey: approximately 7–8 hours.
- Via Bangkok (BKK) — ANA and Thai Airways connect Japan to Bangkok with Bangkok Airways operating direct to Phu Quoc.
Visa Information
Japanese passport holders benefit from Vietnam's visa-free entry for stays of up to 45 days. No advance application or fee is required. Arrive at Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC) with your valid Japanese passport. This is one of the most generous visa-free periods Vietnam offers any nationality, making extended golf tours or multi-destination Vietnam trips highly practical.
